Bauchi Finance Commissioner Sent to Kuje Prison Over ₦4.6bn Financial Crime Allegations

The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the remand of Bauchi State Commissioner of Finance, Yakubu Adamu, in Kuje Correctional Center over allegations of financial crimes amounting to ₦4.6 billion. Adamu is accused of money laundering and fraudulent activities, including diverting funds meant for motorcycles into personal accounts.

The court heard that the funds were instead transferred to Ayab Agro Product Freight Company Ltd. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) alleges that Adamu and two other suspects are at large, with a total of N165.9 million transferred to Ayab Agro Product as part of the illicit transactions.

Adamu and his company have pleaded not guilty to the charges. The defense argued for bail, citing the need for Adamu to fulfill his state duties, but the EFCC opposed the application.
