DSS Arrests Sixth Suspect in Owo Church Attack Case

The Department of State Services (DSS) has reportedly captured Sani Yusuf, the sixth suspect involved in the 2022 attack on St. Francis Catholic Church in Owo, Ondo State, which resulted in the deaths of 40 worshippers.

Yusuf was arrested in Iguosa community, located along Powerline in Ovia North Local Government Area of Edo State. He is identified as a high-profile commander of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) and had evaded arrest for nearly four years.

During his confession, Yusuf admitted to planning and executing the Owo church massacre and acknowledged his involvement in other terrorist activities, including the July 2022 Suleja military barrack attack and a kidnapping operation in Kaduna State. His arrest marks a significant milestone in the DSS's relentless campaign against terrorism, particularly in relation to the Owo church attack and other assaults that have claimed the lives of soldiers.
