El-Rufai's Bail Hearing Adjourned Amid Legal Maneuvers

Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, arrived at the Kaduna Federal High Court on Wednesday morning for a bail hearing. He was driven to the court premises around 9:00 AM and attracted the attention of security personnel and a small group of onlookers.

The hearing resumed following a previous session that was disrupted when the defense team filed a motion requesting the presiding judge, Justice Aikawa, to recuse himself due to alleged bias. This request prompted an immediate response from the prosecution.

However, the defense later withdrew its request for the judge to step aside, leading to extensive legal exchanges between the parties involved. The prosecution subsequently filed a counter affidavit opposing the bail request, which limited the defense's time to review their response.

The situation was further complicated by heightened security around the court, with armed personnel monitoring movements and enforcing strict entry measures for journalists and the public. The matter was adjourned to continue the bail application hearing.
