El-Rufai Questions NSA Over Toxic Chemical Import

Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai has written to the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, seeking clarification on the alleged procurement of approximately 10 kilograms of thallium sulfate. In an official letter dated January 30, 2026, El-Rufai highlighted that thallium sulfate is a highly toxic substance reportedly sourced from a supplier in Poland.

He emphasized the need for transparency regarding public safety and democratic accountability. El-Rufai requested details on the intended purpose of the import, the supplier's identity, and whether the import exists under chemical defense permits.

He further inquired about the total quantity and specific concentration of the substance, as well as the storage and security arrangements upon its arrival in Nigeria. Additionally, he sought information on the regulatory oversight from relevant agencies, including NAFDAC and NCDC, and whether a public health risk assessment had been conducted.

El-Rufai's inquiries aim to ensure due process and safety standards are observed, thereby strengthening public confidence in national institutions.
