FG Graduates 744 Former Terrorists from Rehab Program

On Thursday, the Federal Government of Nigeria graduated 744 individuals from a rehabilitation program designed for repentant terrorists. This initiative is part of the "Safe Corridor" program, which focuses on de-radicalization and reintegration efforts.

Among the graduates, 733 are Muslims and 11 are Christians, with participants from various countries including Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Chad, and Niger. Chief of Defence Staff Gen.

Olufemi Oluyede emphasized that the program is not an amnesty initiative but a structured intervention aimed at reducing violence and weakening extremist recruitment. He urged the graduates to embrace a new path and contribute positively to society.

The program also includes psychosocial support, vocational training, religious reorientation, and civic education. Brig.

Gen. Yusuf Ali noted that the initiative provides an opportunity for beneficiaries, who were often coerced into joining extremist groups, to rebuild their lives.

The Federal Government's commitment to peacebuilding and de-radicalization reflects Nigeria's ongoing shift towards combining military operations with non-kinetic strategies to address insurgency, particularly in the northeast.
