JUST IN: Gov Makinde hands over power to deputy, gives reason

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has handed over power to his deputy, Bayo Lawal, as he proceeds on leave starting August 29, 2025. The governor's notification was contained in a letter read by the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Adebo Ogundoyin, during Tuesday's plenary.

Makinde formally requested approval for his leave and entrusted Lawal to serve as the Acting Governor throughout his vacation period, in accordance with Section 190(1) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Lawal will assume full responsibility as Acting Governor until Makinde's return on September 29, 2025.

Speaker Ogundoyin reaffirmed the House's commitment to upholding the constitutional order and ensuring seamless governance in the state during this period. Governor Makinde's formal notification was endorsed by the Assembly, solidifying Lawal's role as Acting Governor.
