Protest in Ijebuland Over Next Awujale Selection Process

In Ijebuland, residents protested on Friday over suspicions of manipulation in the selection of the next Awujale. The crowd gathered early to express grievances at the Ijebu Ode Local Government headquarters, accusing unnamed forces of pressuring the kingmakers to favor a particular candidate.

The protest follows a circular from the Ogun State Government ordering a halt to the selection process already initiated. The demonstrators emphasized the importance of following due process and preventing external influences in choosing the next monarch.

Mr. Adenugba Obiley warned against undermining the traditional succession system by imposing a candidate through political interference.
