NCAA Suspends Debt Recovery for Domestic Airlines

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has announced the temporary suspension of debt recovery measures against domestic airlines, a decision made to ease financial pressures on the aviation sector. NCAA Director General Chris Najomo issued a statement on Monday, indicating that this move follows extensive consultations within the aviation industry to review the current economic challenges faced by airlines.

The suspension comes at a time when domestic carriers are struggling with severe financial pressures due to rising aviation fuel costs and foreign exchange volatility. While the NCAA's decision does not cancel the airlines' statutory obligations, it aims to prevent further destabilization of airline services, which could lead to flight disruptions.

The NCAA clarified that the suspension is a balanced measure designed to maintain operational stability while ensuring compliance with statutory debts. Additionally, President Bola Tinubu had previously approved a 30% reduction in outstanding charges owed by domestic airlines to support their operations amid high jet A1 fuel prices.
