Nigerian Resident Doctors Commence Nationwide Strike Over Unmet Demands

The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has initiated a nationwide strike after the federal government failed to meet their demands, including the 2025 Medical Residency Training Fund and salary arrears. NARD President Osundara Tope Zenith confirmed the strike following the expiration of the ultimatum.

The association expressed disappointment over unresolved welfare issues. The strike affects resident doctors across federal, state, and private tertiary health institutions in Nigeria.

Among the grievances listed are arrears, CONMESS review, and unpaid accoutrement allowances. The doctors also criticized the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria for downgrading their membership certificates.

The strike highlights the ongoing challenges faced by healthcare workers in Nigeria.
