Nigerian Senate Confirms Justice Joseph Oyewole as Supreme Court Judge

The Nigerian Senate has confirmed Justice Joseph Oyewole as a Supreme Court Judge, based on a recommendation from the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights, and Legal Matters chaired by Sen. Adeniyi Adegbonmire.

Oyewole, who currently serves as a Justice of the Court of Appeal, was nominated by Pres. Bola Tinubu and his elevation to the apex court was approved by the Senate.

The confirmation followed the screening of Oyewole's nomination by the Judiciary Committee, as mandated by the Constitution. Sen.

Godswil Akpabio, the Senate President, read the presidential letter seeking legislative approval for Oyewole's appointment, in accordance with Section 231(2) of the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria. The Senate's approval of Justice Oyewole's nomination underscores the adherence to due process in appointing judges to the Supreme Court.
