Shettima Attends Talon's Inauguration in Benin Republic

Vice President Kashim Shettima departed from Abuja to attend the presidential inauguration of Patrick Talon in Cotonou, Benin Republic, set for May 24, 2026. This inauguration will mark the commencement of Talon's seven-year constitutional term.

Shettima is expected to join other African and global leaders at the ceremony, which will take place at the presidential palace in Cotonou. The event will include the formal transfer of power, the handing over of the presidential sash, and other state protocols.

Talon's running mate, Mariam Chabi Talata, will also be sworn in as Vice President of Benin Republic during this ceremony. A statement from Shettima's spokesperson, Stanlei Nkwocha, highlighted the historical socio-cultural and economic ties between Nigeria and Benin, emphasizing their shared interests in border security, trade, and energy cooperation.

Shettima is expected to return to Nigeria after the inauguration to engage in further governmental activities.
