VP Shettima Represents Tinubu at 2026 AU Summit in Ethiopia

Vice President Kashim Shettima has left Abuja for Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to represent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the 2026 African Union Summit. The summit will convene African leaders to discuss crucial development challenges, with a central theme of ensuring sustainable water availability and safe sanitation systems to achieve the goals of Agenda 2063.

The gathering will specifically focus on water security and sanitation as major pillars for Africa's long-term growth. Leaders are expected to review progress on development goals and agree on fresh strategies to improve access to clean water and public health systems across member states.

Shettima will participate in the 39th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the African Union Heads of State and Government, which is part of the 30th General Assembly scheduled for February 14-15. The visit aims to reinforce Nigeria's leadership role within the African Union and deepen partnerships in areas such as infrastructure, trade, and sustainable development.

Shettima will engage in several high-level meetings on the sidelines of the summit to discuss cooperation for economic growth and diplomacy in the region.
