Tinubu Assigns Wike Campaign Role Ahead of 2027 Elections

President Bola Tinubu is strategizing to assign FCT Minister Nyesom Wike a significant role in coordinating campaign efforts for the 2027 elections in Rivers State and the Federal Capital Territory. Sources indicate that this arrangement aims to utilize Wike's political network while ensuring he remains outside the formal structure of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as he is still a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Wike has asserted that he does not require APC membership or a position on the Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) to achieve results for Tinubu. His self-description as the "General Commander of the Political Infantry" has caused tensions with APC governors, particularly Hope Uzodimma and AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, who oppose his influence.

The Progressives Governors Forum has distanced itself from Wike's 'Rainbow Coalition', which seeks to garner support for Tinubu beyond the APC. To mitigate friction, Tinubu is reportedly limiting Wike's role to securing votes for the president, while the campaign framework will feature a decentralized design with Abdulaziz Yari as Director General of the PCC.
