Tinubu's Government Agrees to 40% Pay Rise for Nigerian Lecturers

The Nigerian government, under Tinubu's leadership, has reached an agreement with ASUU to implement a 40% salary increase for lecturers, ending an eight-year renegotiation process that began in 2017. The deal, effective from January 1, 2026, also covers issues like university funding, academic freedom, and the establishment of a national research council.

The agreement aims to address challenges such as poor funding, brain drain, and lack of autonomy in universities, ensuring no victimization during the renegotiation process.
