Justice increasingly becoming purchasable commodity in Nigeria — Sultan

Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa'ad Abubakar III, expressed concern at the Nigerian Bar Association's Annual General Conference about justice becoming a purchasable commodity in Nigeria. He highlighted how the poor are increasingly becoming victims of a justice system that favors the rich who evade accountability.

The Sultan emphasized the importance of upholding the rule of law to ensure fairness, accountability, and equality for all. He urged participants to address critical issues such as decolonizing laws, promoting social justice, and improving access to justice.

South African opposition leader Julius Malema also warned against African countries falling into debt traps from foreign loans, advocating for greater transparency and regulation in borrowing practices. The conference aimed to address these pressing issues to shape a better future for Nigerian society.

Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State echoed the importance of the legal profession in upholding justice and serving as the conscience of the nation.
