Funso Adebiyi Reports 90% Completion of Kaduna-Kano Rail Project

The Kaduna–Zaria–Kano standard gauge railway project is reported to be about 90% complete, with outstanding land acquisition and compensation issues in Kaduna metropolis identified as major obstacles to finalizing the connection to the Abuja–Kaduna rail corridor. Engr. Funso Adebiyi, the permanent secretary of the Federal Ministry of Transportation, disclosed this during an inspection of the project, which included a train ride from Jaji to Kano.
Approximately 145 kilometres of the 200-kilometre route have been inspected, with about 10 kilometres of work remaining on the inspected stretch. Adebiyi stated that the government is addressing the compensation issues and will prioritize them upon returning to Abuja.
He expressed satisfaction with the construction quality, particularly in track alignment and drainage systems. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is committed to completing the project, with expectations for uninterrupted train services between Abuja and Kano.
Additionally, sections extending from Kano to Katsina are targeted for completion by December.
