Funso Adebiyi Reports 90% Completion of Kaduna-Kano Rail Project

The Kaduna–Zaria–Kano standard gauge railway project has reached approximately 90% completion, as stated by Engr. Funso Adebiyi FNSE, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Transportation, during an inspection tour on October 23rd, 2026. Adebiyi praised the quality of work, highlighting excellent rail alignment, embankment protection, drainage, stone-pitching, and soil stabilization.
He noted significant elevation changes along the route, indicating substantial earthwork. However, he identified outstanding land acquisition and compensation claims in Kaduna metropolis as the primary obstacle to completing the remaining link between Jaji and the Abuja–Kaduna rail corridor.
Adebiyi assured stakeholders that the government is addressing these issues. He expressed confidence that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is committed to completing the project, which will soon allow uninterrupted train travel from Abuja through Kaduna and Zaria to Kano.
The inspected section covered about 145 kilometers of the total 200-kilometer route, with only 10 kilometers remaining. Additionally, sections extending from Kano to Katsina are targeted for completion by December.
