Kaduna State Unveils Health Supply Model to Five States

Kaduna State has introduced an integrated system for distributing essential medicines and health commodities, showcased to representatives from Ekiti, Kwara, Bayelsa, Niger, and the Federal Capital Territory during a four-day peer learning visit. Aisha Isiyaku-Tukur, executive secretary of the Kaduna State Health Supplies Management Agency (KADHSMA), explained that the Integrated Last-Mile Delivery (ILMD) system consolidates the distribution process, improving efficiency by delivering supplies directly to health facilities.
This system, introduced last year, builds on Kaduna's existing last-mile delivery model. Isiyaku-Tukur credited the state's progress to effective governance and support from the state government, the Gates Foundation, and the Nigeria Governors’ Forum.
The delegates aimed to learn from KADHSMA’s operational processes and adapt successful practices to their states. Umma Ahmad, Kaduna State Commissioner for Health, emphasized the need for collaboration among stakeholders.
Participants, including pharmacist Olajide Kolawole, expressed that the visit provided valuable insights into drug supply management.
