Kalu Champions African Digital Trade Multilateralism at WTO

Deputy Speaker of the Nigerian House of Representatives, Hon Benjamin Kalu, advocates for African digital trade multilateralism at the WTO-IPU steering committee session in Geneva. Kalu highlighted the crucial role of parliaments in promoting multilateralism in digital trade.

He emphasized the significance of digital trade in shaping the future opportunities for African youth and entrepreneurs. Kalu pointed out Africa's proactive efforts in building regional multilateralism through initiatives like the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and the Protocol on Digital Trade.

He also mentioned Nigeria's legislative actions, such as the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 and the forthcoming National Digital Economy Bill, to support digital trade. The focus was on creating a harmonized and integrated digital market in Africa.
