Kano Task Force Arrests 380 Suspects in Drug Crackdown

The Kano State Multi-Agency Task Force on Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, inaugurated on July 22, 2026, reported significant achievements in its operations, arresting 380 suspects and securing over 230 convictions within two months. The chairman, Muhuyi Magaji Rimin Gado, stated that these efforts are part of the state government's initiative to combat drug abuse, thuggery, phone snatching, and other criminal activities in Kano State.

The task force conducted joint enforcement operations in various identified hotspots, leading to the recovery of a range of illicit drugs, including Cannabis Sativa, Exol-5, Diazepam, Pentazocine, Tramadol, Pregabalin capsules, and a designer drug containing methamphetamine. Additionally, locally made weapons such as knives, cutlasses, daggers, and clubs were seized.

A major concern highlighted by Rimin Gado was the seizure of approximately 870,000 Pregabalin capsules from a pharmaceutical company, raising alarms about the potential diversion of controlled medicines for illicit use.
