Kano Assembly Passes Key Education Bills in 2026

On Monday, during a plenary session presided over by Speaker Jibril Ismail Falgore, the Kano State House of Assembly passed two significant bills: the Kano State Education Bill 2026 and the Audu Bako College of Agriculture, Science and Technology, Dambatta Amendment Bill 2026. The Kano State Education Bill 2026, presented by Majority Leader Lawan Husaini, repeals the long-standing Education Law of 1964 and establishes a comprehensive legal framework aimed at the sustainable development of education in the state.

This new legislation defines the structure of upper and lower basic education and promotes the expansion of science and technology education. It also sets guidelines for the establishment and operation of educational institutions, including private, nursery, and primary schools, while outlining the responsibilities of the Commissioner for Education.

The Audu Bako College Amendment Bill formally changes the institution's name and expands its educational mandate beyond agriculture, allowing for the introduction of science and technology programs and seeking accreditation from the National Board for Technical Education.
