Kano Governor Abba Yusuf's Strategic Defection to APC Explained Amid Political Tensions

Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has clarified that his defection from NNPP to APC is not personal but a strategic decision to enhance the state's access to federal government funds and interventions. The Director-General of Kano State Signage and Advertising Agency, Kabiru Dakata, emphasized that the move is aimed at benefiting Kano State through increased federal support for key development projects.

Yusuf's resignation from NNPP was followed by speculation of his formal entry into APC on January 26, 2026. This defection has led to political tensions in Kano, with former Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso expressing disappointment over Yusuf's exit from NNPP.
