Kano State Reaffirms Commitment to Press Freedom

The Kano State government has reaffirmed its commitment to press freedom and responsible journalism in a statement shared on Sunday, coinciding with the global observance of World Press Freedom Day on May 3. Ibrahim Waiya, the state commissioner for information and internal affairs, emphasized that this day should not only be a ceremonial occasion but a moment for deep reflection on the importance of media independence.

The statement underscored the role of media in promoting unity, stability, and sustainable development. Governor Abba Yusuf, who anchors the administration's media-friendly approach, reiterated that the state's media policies will always respect press freedom and will not condone any form of intimidation or suppression of journalistic practices.
