Kano State Restructures Urban Planning Agencies for Growth

The Kano State government has initiated a restructuring of its urban planning institutions to address challenges related to rapid population growth and the enforcement of development regulations. Abduljabbar Umar, the commissioner for Lands and Physical Planning, announced these moves at a two-day stakeholder engagement workshop held in Abuja.
The workshop focused on reviewing and validating the proposed organizational structures of the Kano State Development Control Agency (KADCA) and the Kano State Metropolitan Management Agency (KAMMA). Umar stated that the laws establishing these agencies were created to tackle issues in regulating and enforcing the state's master plan.
He emphasized that a new master plan would serve as a clear reference for planning and enforcement. The proposed framework, based on the Kano State Physical Planning and Development Control Law, 2026, outlines the distinct roles of KAMMA in urban management and KADCA in development control.
The engagement aims to produce a comprehensive blueprint for effective urban management in Kano State.
