PHIMA Closes 35 Private Health Facilities for Violations

The Kano State Private Health Institutions Management Agency (PHIMA) has closed more than 35 private health facilities in the state over regulatory violations within the past 12 months. Hajiya Khadijah Sa’id, the Acting Director-General of PHIMA and also the Director of Administration and General Services, stated that these closures are part of efforts to enforce healthcare standards and protect residents from unsafe medical practices.
Major violations included operating without a licence, failing to renew annual registration, and employing unqualified personnel. Sa’id mentioned that over 100 facilities were sanctioned for various infractions, with 35 shut down for gross violations.
Some facilities were temporarily closed to allow for corrections. Sa’id warned that serious breaches could lead to permanent delisting of facilities and prohibition of their proprietors from registering new ones.
PHIMA oversees various health-related establishments and collaborates with other government entities to identify illegal facilities. The agency is enhancing inspections and increasing funding to improve enforcement across Kano State.
