Katsina govt pledges children involvement in governance

The Katsina State Government has committed to involving children in governance processes, particularly in matters affecting their welfare and development. Deputy Governor Alhaji Faruq made this promise while meeting with members of the state Children Parliament, who were accompanied by key government officials.

The government emphasized the importance of engaging citizens in the budget planning process, with consultations set to extend to children for the 2026 budget. The Speaker of the Children Parliament, Fadila Sani, commended the government for initiatives like establishing Sexual Assault Referral Centres and a Child Rights Implementation Committee but called for stronger enforcement of child protection laws and increased budget allocation for related programs.

The government was urged to sensitize children on the importance of school enrollment to improve access to education.
