Katsina Withholds Salaries Of 100 Teachers For Abandoning Work

The Katsina state government has decided to withhold the salaries of 100 teachers who have been found to be neglecting their duties. The decision was confirmed by the Commissioner of Basic and Secondary Education, Hajiya Zainab Musawa, who expressed concern over the growing trend of teachers abandoning their work.

During a visit to 20 schools, it was found that 60% of teachers were not fulfilling their responsibilities. Some teachers who had relocated to other states were still receiving salaries from Katsina despite not teaching for up to two years.

The Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education has taken this step to ensure accountability and transparency in the education sector. A joint education sector coordination committee, in partnership with UNICEF, has been established to guide policy formulation and resource mobilization.

The committee, chaired by the commissioner, aims to promote effective education service delivery and collaboration among government agencies, civil society groups, and development partners. UNICEF has pledged support for the committee for one year to ensure.
