Katsina State Sets Ambitious Tree Planting Goal for 2030

The Katsina State Government has set a target to plant and nurture 11 million trees across the state by 2030, beginning with two million trees in 2026, under the Katsina-One-Tree Initiative. Governor Dikko Radda announced this goal on Monday during the initiative's launch at Ladanawa in Rimi Local Government Area.
The initiative will encompass all 34 local government areas and 6,652 Climate Intervention Areas. Radda stressed the importance of environmental protection for agricultural productivity and food security, highlighting threats from desertification, climate change, and flooding.
He noted that trees provide numerous benefits, including protection against erosion and additional income opportunities for rural communities. To ensure effective implementation, a Central Steering Committee and zonal monitoring committees will be established.
Radda called on various community leaders to take ownership of the initiative, emphasizing that while governments can initiate campaigns, sustainability relies on community involvement.
