Katsina and UNICEF Enhance Immunization Efforts

The Katsina State Primary Health Care Agency (KSPHCA), with support from the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), is intensifying efforts to address Non-Compliance (NC) and Child Absent (CA) cases in immunization. This initiative follows the Majalisa Rigakafi program launched in December 2024 by the First Lady of Katsina State, Hajiya Zulaihat Dikko Radda, targeting eight local government areas: Batagarawa, Baure, Funtua, Kankara, Katsina, Mani, Rimi, and Safana.

A one-day orientation held at Classique Event Centre aimed to equip Majalisa Rigakafi members and local health educators with skills for non-compliance resolution. Dr Mukhtar Mahmud, the state Health Educator, emphasized the importance of community engagement and tracking immunization defaulters.

Between August and October 2025, the program conducted outreach in 213 settlements, sensitizing 7,829 caregivers and identifying 2,969 children who missed vaccinations, with 2,069 receiving their doses. The initiative has strengthened male involvement in child healthcare and improved collaboration between community leaders and healthcare workers.
