UNICEF Renovates Katsina PHC, Calls for Staffing Support

On Thursday, UNICEF handed over a renovated Primary Health Care facility, the Maternal and Child Health Centre Bakiyawa, to the Katsina State Government. This renovation was part of the Global Fund implementation support aimed at strengthening primary healthcare delivery.

Dr. Serekeberehan Seyoum, UNICEF Health Manager, emphasized the need for the state government to provide essential equipment, adequate staffing, and maintenance to ensure quality healthcare services. He stated that the facility would improve access to health services and working conditions for healthcare workers.

The management and maintenance responsibility of the facility has been transferred to the Katsina State Primary Health Care Agency. Dr. Shema’u Kabir, the agency's acting Executive Secretary, noted that while UNICEF supported infrastructure improvements, the state government must supply the necessary equipment for full functionality.

She confirmed that existing healthcare workers would return to the facility post-renovation and that an assessment of equipment needs would precede any additional requests for support from the state government.
