Kebbi State Assembly Repeals Child's Right Law, Enacts New Protection Bill

The Kebbi State House of Assembly has repealed the Child's Right Law and enacted a new Child Protection Law in 2025, following a thorough consideration of a report presented by the House Committee on Justice and Judiciary. The bill, comprising 209 sections and 16 schedules, underwent significant amendments, including fine increments and clearer definitions of unlawful sexual intercourse with a child.

Various interest groups, such as traditional leaders, religious bodies, and advocacy organizations, were engaged during public hearings. The move aims to enhance the protection and promotion of children's welfare in Kebbi State.
