Udenwa Files N5bn Defamation Suit Against Kenneth Okonkwo

Kenneth Okonkwo, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, is facing a N5 billion defamation lawsuit filed by former Imo State Governor Achike Udenwa. The suit was filed at the High Court of Imo State, Owerri Judicial Division, and served to Okonkwo in Enugu State.

The allegations stem from comments Okonkwo made on 8th June 2026 during Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily program, where he claimed that Udenwa and others were involved in extorting South East aspirants. Udenwa, who is currently a member of the Nigerian Democratic Congress, denies any wrongdoing and states he has never been accused of fraud or financial impropriety.

He is seeking a declaration that Okonkwo's statements are false and defamatory, along with N5 billion in damages, a full retraction and apology published on various platforms, and a perpetual injunction against further defamatory statements. Udenwa's legal representation has indicated that Okonkwo has 42 days to respond to the suit.
