Kenya's Health Officials Release 20 Ebola Contacts After Quarantine

Twenty contacts associated with Kenya's first imported case of Bundibugyo virus disease were released from quarantine after completing a mandatory 21-day monitoring period without developing symptoms. This was confirmed by the World Health Organisation's Regional Office for Africa.
The contacts were reunited with their families following a final health assessment and counseling on post-discharge precautions. Kenya's Director General for Health, Dr Patrick Amoth, stated that these individuals pose no risk of infection.
As of the latest update, 98 contacts remained in quarantine, and eight contacts had developed symptoms and tested positive for Ebola. All confirmed cases were already in quarantine when symptoms appeared and were transferred to an Ebola treatment center in Nairobi.
Since the first case was reported on October 6, 2026, Kenya has recorded nine confirmed cases and two deaths, all linked to one group. The WHO continues to support Kenyan health authorities in various aspects of disease management.
