Keyamo Explains Why Nigerian Government Cannot Regulate Airfare Prices Amid Aviation Challenges

Minister Keyamo addressed the Federal Executive Council (FEC) on the inability of the government to regulate domestic airfare prices due to the deregulated aviation system since the early 1990s. He highlighted challenges such as limited aircraft availability, costly leasing arrangements, and reliance on foreign currency for maintenance.

Keyamo also mentioned recent positive developments like major international aircraft lessors returning to Nigeria's market after almost two decades, aiming to lower costs and enhance competition. The government approved projects to improve safety and passenger experience at airports, including upgrades to Aminu Kano International Airport.
