Freed NYSC Members Choose South-West States for Service

Twenty prospective National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members who were kidnapped in Imo State have been released and given the option to select any of the six South-West states for their national service. They were abducted on October 1 along the Owerri-Onitsha Road, near Umunoha in the Mbaitoli Local Government Area, while traveling in two commercial buses operated by Uko Akwa Ibom Motors.
The kidnappers demanded ₦50 million for each graduate. The Imo State Police Command announced their rescue on Wednesday at Amakohia Ubi Village in the Owerri West Local Government Area.
A parent of one of the freed victims confirmed that the graduates could continue their service in the South-West, allowing them to avoid traveling to areas they might consider unsafe after their ordeal.
