Kidnappers Kill Father of Ex-Ebonyi Deputy Governor

On March 1, 2026, Franci Igw, the father of former Ebonyi Deputy Governor Kelechi Igw and a traditional ruler in Ndufu Alik, Ikwo Local Government Area, was kidnapped and subsequently killed. The Ebonyi State Police Command, led by spokesperson Joshua Ukandu, confirmed the incident and initiated an immediate operation following the report of the abduction.

During the operation, two suspects believed to be members of the kidnapping syndicate were arrested, and they reportedly confessed to the murder of the monarch on March 2. The operation continued, leading to a confrontation where gang members allegedly opened fire on the police.

In the ensuing gun battle, some criminals were neutralized, while others fled. A total of nine suspects have been arrested, and a local-made pistol was recovered.

The remains of the slain traditional ruler have been deposited in a morgue for autopsy, and investigations are ongoing to apprehend the remaining gang members.
