Killing Of Security Agent Triggers Anxiety In Yenagoa

The killing of a security agent in Yenagoa on August 19 has sparked anxiety in the Amarata community of Bayelsa State. Residents reported that an armed policeman launched a reprisal raid on the area, resulting in indiscriminate shooting and panic among the residents.

Witnesses, including a broadcaster and a retired police officer, confirmed the incident, with one resident's house being attacked and the family fleeing to safety. The Police Public Relations Officer of Bayelsa State Command, Musa Mohammed, stated that they were unable to confirm the incident at the time of the report.

Community leaders have called for security operatives to exercise restraint to prevent further escalation of violence in the densely populated neighborhood, which has been a flashpoint for clashes between cult groups and security forces. The community is urging the government and security agencies to intervene swiftly to restore calm and prevent further casualties.
