Ebonyi Governor Lifts Curfew in Amasiri After Violence

Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State announced the lifting of a three-month curfew imposed on Amasiri community due to violent clashes that led to the beheading of at least four individuals. This decision was made during a state security council meeting held in Abakaliki on Monday.

The curfew had been enforced since February 2026 following a fatal boundary dispute between Amasiri and Afikpo Local Government Area. Chief Press Secretary Uzor Aris confirmed that the curfew was lifted to facilitate the reopening of schools and hospitals in the affected community.

Despite the lifting of the curfew, Director of State Services Mr. Eneh Kolawal emphasized that security personnel would continue to operate in the area to ensure peace is fully restored.

Additionally, State Attorney General Ben Odo mentioned that the council's decision reflects a commitment to protect lives and property, while also addressing the community's request to delist Amasiri from the development center due to the crisis.
