King Charles III Welcomes Nigerians Before Tinubu's Visit

On March 18, 2024, King Charles III hosted a reception for members of the Nigerian diaspora in the UK in anticipation of President Bola Tinubu's state visit, scheduled for March 18-19, 2024. This marks the first visit by a Nigerian leader to the UK in 37 years, with the last being former military president Ibrahim Babangida in 1989.

The reception featured traditional Nigerian dishes such as jollof rice and live music from Dele Sosimi's Afrobeat orchestra. The Royal Family described the gathering as a significant event.

In preparation for President Tinubu's visit, extensive security measures have been announced, including airspace restrictions and road closures around Windsor Castle, coordinated by Thames Valley Police and the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead. Chief Superintendent Adrian Hall confirmed that resources would be deployed to support security operations, including CCTV networks and barriers to mitigate potential threats.
