Jide Kosoko Declared Oloja of Lagos-Elect Amid Royal Family Succession Dispute

The King Kosoko Royal Family has officially declared veteran Nollywood actor and filmmaker Jide Kosoko as the Oloja of Lagos-elect. The position became vacant after the passing of Chief Adebola Ig in December 2017.

Kosoko, aged 72, was formally presented as the Oloja-elect at the King Kosoko Palace in Ereko, Lagos Island, in the presence of a large gathering of royal family members. The declaration was made by the Olori Ebi of the King Kosoko Royal Family, Mrs.

Mutiat Ali Balogun. The appointment of Jide Kosoko as the Oloja-elect has sparked a succession dispute within the wider King Kosoko Royal Dynasty, particularly with the Akinsanya Olojo Family branch.

The Akinsanya Olojo Family insists that Abiola Olojo Kosoko was selected as the Oloja-elect in December 2020 but has yet to be installed. The family has appealed to Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to approve the installation of Abiola Olojo Kosoko as the Oloja of Lagos by December 2025.

Jide Kosoko, a respected figure in the Nigerian entertainment industry, is expected to undergo traditional installation rites at the Oba of Lagos Palace. He began his acting career in 1964 and has featured in numerous Nollywood films in English and Yoruba languages.
