Jide Kosoko Named Next Oloja of Lagos Amid Succession Dispute

The King Kosoko Royal Family has announced veteran Nollywood actor and filmmaker Jide Kosoko as the next Oloja of Lagos following the vacancy created by the death of Chief Adebola Ig in December 2017. The formal unveiling of Jide Kosoko took place at the King Kosoko Palace on Ereko Island in Lagos.

However, the Akinsanya Olojo Family insists on the installation of Abiola Olojo Kosoko, who was declared Oloja-elect in December 2020 but has not been installed as of December 2025. The succession process involved traditional screening and interviews at the Kosoko Palace in October 2020.

Jide Kosoko, a Yaba College of Technology graduate, began his acting career in 1964 and has built a distinguished career in English and Yoruba language films.
