Benue Kinsmen Oppose Governor Alia's Re-election Bid

Kinsmen of Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia, under the Kunav Bloc, have declared their opposition to his re-election bid for the 2027 governorship election, citing poor governance and worsening insecurity in the state. This declaration was made during a joint press conference held in Makurdi over the weekend, attended by six gubernatorial aspirants from various political parties, including Professor Denni Ityavyar, Hon. Joseph Waya, Professor Paul Angya, Professor Terhemba Shija, Rt.

Hon. Domin Terkaa Ucha, and ESV Godwin Ityoachimin. The aspirants criticized the state’s leadership, highlighting a significant financial inflow yet persistent attacks on communities, irregular salary payments, and declining infrastructure.

They noted that despite Benue State receiving approximately N400 billion from the Federal Account Allocation Committee, public finances remain underfunded, and insecurity is on the rise, as evidenced by recent attacks in the state. Governor Alia's spokesman, Tersoo Kula, dismissed the press conference as politically motivated and insisted that the administration has implemented reforms in public finance management and security.
