Ezekwesili Warns Nigerian Senate Over Electoral Reforms

Former Minister of Education, Ezekwesili, has cautioned the Nigerian Senate for allegedly undermining electoral reforms and public trust. She criticized the Senate's decision to vote against the proposed amendment to the Electoral Act, which would have made electronic transmission of election results mandatory.

Ezekwesili accused the lawmakers of prioritizing personal partisan interests over national development. She highlighted the Senate's failure to support real-time upload of poll unit results and accused them of compromising legislative integrity.

Ezekwesili emphasized that the Senate's actions were not innocent choices but deliberate attempts to maintain discretionary loopholes. She also criticized the Senate for blocking anti-corruption and electoral reforms, approving inflated budgets, and confirming unfit executive nominees in exchange for political favors.
