UNILORIN Lecturer Arrested Over WhatsApp Claim on Road Funding

Elijah Olorunsuwa, a lecturer at the University of Ilorin and social commentator, was arrested on September 17 by Kogi police officers at his residence in Ilorin. The arrest stemmed from a WhatsApp post where he claimed a road project in Kogi State was funded by the World Bank instead of the state government.
Approximately eight officers arrived at his home around 5 am and took him to Kogi State, where he was shown a petition dated September 11, signed by Jerry Omodara, security adviser to the Kogi State Government. The petition accused Olorunsuwa of making false allegations against the government.
Despite requesting to see a warrant and to drive himself to the police station, he was taken in a police van. Omodara demanded a public retraction of Olorunsuwa's comments, which he refused.
Olorunsuwa was released the same evening but was asked to return on September 17.
