Kwankwaso Hosts Surprising Meeting with Obi in Kano

On Sunday, during the Eid el-Fitr celebrations, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, hosted a meeting in Kano that included former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi and former Bayelsa State Governor Seriake Dickson. The event, which also featured Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, surprised the Kano chapter of the APC, as expressed by Auwal Mai Nage, the party's public secretary.

He noted the unexpected nature of the gathering, questioning its political relevance given Obi's perceived limited engagement with the Muslim community. The turnout was reportedly below expectations, raising concerns about the political strategies of the opposition ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Despite the surprise, APC officials insisted that the meeting did not pose a serious political challenge within the state. This gathering follows previous closed-door meetings among opposition figures, fueling speculation about potential coalitions to challenge the ruling APC at the national level.
