Kwankwaso Hosts Opposition Leaders at Eid Gathering in Kano

On Sunday, during Eid el-Fitr celebrations, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the national leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), hosted a gathering in Kano that included notable opposition figures such as Peter Obi, the former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Seyi Makinde, the governor of Oyo State, and Seriake Dickson, the former governor of Bayelsa State. This event was shared on Kwankwaso's verified social media account, where he described it as a moment of unity and celebration.

However, the Kano chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) reacted with surprise, questioning the political significance of the meeting. Auwal Mai Nage, the APC's public secretary, expressed genuine surprise at the alignment of Kwankwaso and Obi, given Obi's perceived limited engagement with the Muslim community.

The APC criticized the turnout, claiming it fell short of expectations, and suggested that the gathering did not pose a serious political challenge within the state. This meeting may signal early moves toward opposition realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections.
