Kwara State Government Enhances Family Planning Access

The Kwara State Government has introduced an electronic warehouse management system aimed at improving the monitoring and availability of family planning commodities across health facilities. This initiative was announced by the Commissioner for Health, Amina El-Imam, during a stakeholders' meeting in Ilorin to commemorate the 2026 World Contraception Day.
El-Imam reaffirmed the government's commitment to enhancing access to quality family planning services, which are vital for improving maternal and child health. She highlighted the importance of collaboration among various stakeholders, including government, healthcare providers, and community leaders.
The Family Planning Coordinator, Bashirat Jatto, noted that training for healthcare workers on a new hormonal intrauterine device had begun to expand contraceptive options. Dr Homsuk Swomen from the United Nations Population Fund expressed support for Kwara's efforts in addressing barriers to family planning, particularly for adolescents and young people, and praised the government's commitment to ensuring reproductive health decisions are informed and voluntary.
