Kwara State Engages Residents for 2027 Budget Planning

The Kwara State Government has concluded its citizen engagement sessions for the 2027 budget, focusing on community needs such as road construction, interlocking projects, and solar lighting for markets. The final session took place at the Banquet Hall in Ilorin for residents of the Kwara Central Senatorial District.

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, represented by Dr Mary Arinde, the Commissioner for Planning and Economic Development, stated that the open budget process aims to incorporate citizens' priorities into fiscal plans. He highlighted the administration's commitment to participatory governance, asserting that budgets should reflect the experiences and voices of the citizens.

The 2027 budget is seen as an opportunity to enhance infrastructure and capital projects. Community leaders, including Dr Lawal Olohungbebe, called for more interlocking of communities and renovation of traditional chiefs' mini-palaces.

The state recorded a 93.5% budget performance in 2025, as noted by Alhaji Samsudeen Aregbe, the Director of Budget.
