Kwara North Senator Sadiq Umar Faces Third Term Opposition

Sadiq Suleiman Umar's ambition for a third term as senator representing Kwara North has encountered significant resistance. A press conference held in Ilorin revealed that local groups, including the Patigi Emirate Development Union, expressed deep concerns regarding his intent to seek re-election ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The groups declared their position against a third term, citing the importance of respecting established political traditions and ensuring equitable representation among the local government areas within the district. Salihu Bologi, representing the union, urged political actors and stakeholders to uphold principles of fairness, equity, and mutual respect to maintain peace and political stability in the region.

The groups emphasized that the political destiny of Kwara North should not be dominated by any single local government area, advocating for a rotational system that allows for balanced representation every two terms, or eight years, to preserve political harmony and strengthen inter-community trust.
