Senate Urges Action Against Rising Attacks in Kwara North

The Nigerian Senate convened on Wednesday to address the escalating security crisis in Kwara North, driven by persistent attacks and abductions by armed criminals. Senator Sadiq Suleiman Umar, who sponsored the motion, warned that the ongoing violence threatens community stability and requires urgent federal intervention.

The Senate lamented the continued abduction of women and children, particularly recalling the Woro massacre where victims were held captive for months. The attacks have resulted in significant loss of life and property, creating an atmosphere of fear among residents.

The Senate noted that the traditional institution's sanctity has been undermined, especially following recent attacks during the Sallah celebrations. Senator Umar emphasized the vulnerability of the Patigi local government area and called for the establishment of additional military bases, enhanced joint operations, and improved road infrastructure to support security efforts.

The Senate unanimously adopted the motion urging the federal government to intensify security measures and rehabilitate critical infrastructure in the region.
